AI ASSISTANT FOR DEVELOPERS

Build data pipelines with
AI assistance

The CloverDX AI Assistant helps you move through everyday development work faster without leaving the CloverDX environment.

Use it like a knowledgeable teammate inside Designer. Ask a simple question, select part of a graph and ask what it does, hand it a file, or describe the pipeline you want to create. The Assistant responds with explanations, suggestions, generated assets, or changes you can review in the visual Designer.

You stay in control of the result. The Assistant helps create and explain CloverDX artifacts; you inspect, edit, run, and approve them.

Ask questions in plain language
Understand the graph in front of you
Edit CTL and metadata faster
Build faster without leaving Designer

Start with a question. The Assistant can explain CloverDX concepts, project structure, component behavior, metadata, CTL, or the graph you are working on.

Use it when you want a fast answer without switching to documentation, searching through old projects, or interrupting another developer.

Examples

  • “What does this component do?”
  • “Why would I use this component instead of that one?”
  • “Explain this graph in plain English.”
  • “What should I check before running this?”
  • “How does this metadata affect the next step?”

The Assistant is more useful when it knows what you are looking at. Select one or more components in Designer and ask about that part of the pipeline.

Instead of explaining CloverDX in general, it can answer in the context of your actual graph: how components connect, what data is expected to flow through them, and where logic is being applied.

Use it to

  • Explain a selected component or group of components
  • Understand how records move through part of a graph
  • Identify where transformation logic is applied
  • Get oriented in a project you did not build
  • Turn a visual selection into a plain-language explanation

The Assistant can help with the small development tasks that often sit between “I know what I need” and “the graph is ready to run.”

Ask it to rewrite a CTL transform, generate sample records, inspect existing data, or create metadata files from what it finds. You can review the result, adjust it manually, and continue working in Designer.

Use it to

  • Rewrite CTL in an existing component
  • Explain what a CTL transform is doing
  • Add small changes to transformation logic
  • Generate realistic sample data for testing
  • Inspect files and derive metadata
  • Create multiple metadata files from existing data

The Assistant does not replace the CloverDX canvas. It makes the canvas easier to work with.

You can ask, generate, inspect, edit, run, and revise in the same environment where your pipelines are built. The Assistant provides a faster starting point and clearer context; Designer remains where you review the work and make the final call.

What you get

  • Faster answers while building
  • More context on existing graphs
  • Quicker CTL and metadata work
  • Sample data when you need test inputs
  • First-draft graphs you can refine
  • A normal CloverDX project at the end

Use AI Assistant as a development companion when you need to…

  • Start a new graph from a rough idea
  • Understand what an existing graph does
  • Clean up or rewrite transformation logic
  • Prepare sample data for development
  • Create, update or refactor metadata

Clover AI Assistant: Frequently asked questions

Here are some questions we've been asked about using the AI Assistant in CloverDX. If you have questions that aren't listed here, we're always happy to answer them - just get in touch.

The Assistant is bring-your-own-key. You configure your own AI provider account in Designer, with support for Anthropic, OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, and Google. CloverDX does not host the model or sell AI usage credits.

No. CloverDX does not host an AI service and is not in the path of your AI calls. The Assistant connects from the Designer machine to the provider you configure, and your data is shared only with that provider under your own contract and governance rules.

Yes, if you allow it. The Assistant can work in read-write mode to build, edit, test, and document jobs, but you can switch it to read-only mode at any time. Admins can also set the MCP Server to read-only globally, which prevents sandbox changes.

During the CloverDX 7.5 tech preview, it is recommended for test and development environments only. The Assistant can read, modify, and run jobs in connected Server projects, so all output should be reviewed before you rely on it.

You need CloverDX Designer and Server 7.5, a CloverDX AI Assistant licence key, your own AI provider API key, outbound network access from Designer to that provider, and a CloverDX Server project. Local projects are not supported. Contact your Account Manager to obtain your license.
